Er gründete als Chefarzt eine neue psychiatrische Fachabteilung im Westklinikum in Hamburg. Er ist Gründungsmitglied im Vorstand der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Psychoedukation (DGPE). Außerdem ist er an der Gründung des ersten Ausbildungsinstituts zur Verhaltenstherapie in Hamburg mitbeteiligt und half, die Deutsche Ärztliche Gesellschaft für Verhaltenstherapie (DÄVT) ins Leben zu rufen.
Neben der Vorstandstätigkeit für die World Association for Psychological Rehabilitation (WAPR) , wurde er 2009 zum Chairman bei der WPA (Weltgesellschaft für Psychiatrie ) gewählt. Bis heute stellt er als Co-Chairman Symposien auf wissenschaftlichen Kongressen zusammen. In seiner privaten Praxis in Hamburg stehen besonders die individuelle Diagnostik und Therapie von psychosomatischen Belastungssymptomen, unter Anwendung der ganzheitlichen Prof. Stark Methode. Der Praxisschwerpunkt liegt auf der Diagnostik und Therapie von ME/CFS, sowie Long Covid.
